There are so many of us getting shot again this year. In Dane County more and more guns are being found on arrested subjects. I ask all officers to stay alert. Trooper Anthony Borostowski was killed in a single vehicle crash at mile marker 89 on eastbound I-90/94 in Sauk County. He was on patrol at approximately 4:00 am when his patrol car left the roadway and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Trooper Borostowski was a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard and had served with the Wisconsin State Patrol for three years. Assistant Chief Deputy Greenwood was ambushed in his department parking lot when he arrived to work and died Monday, April 3, 2017. I will continue to post when an officer dies a violent death. Two people, Johnny Johnson, 45 years old, of Deer Valley Road and Benjamin Roebuck, 37 years old, of Deer Valley Road have been charged with Food Stamp Offense – Unauthorized Use of Foods Stamps $100 – $5,000 as Party to a Crime. Officer Terney with the Techumseh, OK police department was killed March 27, 2017. A young man at the beginning of his career. Police Officer Justin Terney was shot and killed while pursuing a fleeing subject at approximately 11:30 pm. He conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle near South Cooper Drive and Benson Park Road. The driver of the vehicle fled on foot and Officer Terney pursued him. Officer Turney deployed his taser, but it had no effect on the man. Detective Weiland was killed in the line of duty on March 22, 2017. Detective Weiland’s funeral is this week. Detective Jason Weiland was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance and multiple shootings. Police initially responded to a domestic disturbance call at a bank in Rothschild where two bank employees had been shot and killed. The subject later killed an attorney at a law office in Schofield before barricading himself inside an apartment complex near the intersection of Ross Avenue and Aspen Street in Weston. Sergeant Shawn Anderson was shot and killed at approximately 11:00 pm on March 18, 2017 while investigating a rape. He and another officer had gone to a salon at 1962 O’Neal Lane to interview the suspect. A struggle ensued during the interview in which Sergeant Anderson was fatally shot. The suspect was wounded during the incident and taken into custody. Date: March 7th, 2017 -On March 1st, Town of Madison officers were called to a fight involving about 15 subjects at local gas station. One suspect was found with a gun, a Taser and marijuana. -On March 3rd, Monona officers stopped a vehicle occupied by three subjects on the beltline. The work of a police K9 can be downright dirty. Not many shifts go by without Officer James Brown heading home wet, muddy, and covered in dog drool. Officer Brown and K9 Tonto’s shift on March 2 proved no different. At 11:59 pm they were dispatched to assist an outside agency in attempting to locate a fleeing suspect. The suspect fled from officers on foot. K9 Tonto located the suspect’s track and followed it. Tonto tracked the suspect for .41 miles and located him hiding in a small river, partially submerged. Police officers killed in the line of duty is up 38% this year to 18 nationwide. The only good news is that gunfire deaths are down by 6 or 33% so far. The way Officer Boyer was killed could happen to any of us around here as well. Our local officers know this and don’t want to be the next statistic. This is why they may ask you to show your hands, or put your hands on a steering wheel. It isn’t about you personally, it is training and consistency. If our officers are consistent, they are safe.
