CRC – What is it?

You may have heard about CRC, Community Restorative Courts.  The Town of Madison officially became involved with CRC this year.  We have full support from the police department, municipal court, municipal attorney, and our Town Board.  This program is a major plus for our community. The mission of the CRC is to repair harm, reduce risk and rebuild community.  The ability to have victims and community have input in the process is an important part of the process.  For me, I firmly believe CRC will help solve core reasons crimes occur and prevent crimes from occurring in the future through … Continue reading CRC – What is it?

K9 Training

There is a lot of training that takes place with a K9 team.  Beside the initial 10 weeks of training the team trains 16 hours a month.  That is on top of the regular in-service training the handler has to go through! At S.K.I.D.D.S. officers and K9 teams learn approaches, entries, slow stealth and tactical team movements and searching techniques, safer arrest techniques along with team movement during live gunfire. The skills learned at S.K.I.D.D.S. will enhance their searching abilities and make your job safer and easier.  Learn more here. Below is a video of Tonto being sent to an armed … Continue reading K9 Training

The Tasing of Officer Winckler

Every officer goes through Taser training when they start.  Part of the training is an offer to be tased.  It is not required, but most officers take the opportunity.  It gives them an idea of what it feels like and if they can fight through the pain if they are tased in the field. Of course, we like to video this part of the training, because, well, it is fun for everyone else to watch.  This year a gentleman just finished some business in our Business Office and I asked if he wanted to help.  He was happy to help! … Continue reading The Tasing of Officer Winckler

Deputy Bill McGowan

Bill McGowan drove the Beltline Truck for the Sheriff’s Department for a number of years.  He recently retired due to terminal cancer.  His partner with the assignment, Eric Novotny, coordianted a great retirement gift for Bill.  Prior to being a deputy Bill was a mechanic for Kayser Ford.  One of his primary jobs was to service law enforcment squads – we were sorry to see him leave that position because he was an excellent mechanic.  But, he was even better out on the Beltline helping motorists and officers alike.
