The work of a police K9 can be downright dirty. Not many shifts go by without Officer James Brown heading home wet, muddy, and covered in dog drool. Officer Brown and K9 Tonto’s shift on March 2 proved no different. At 11:59 pm they were dispatched to assist an outside agency in attempting to locate a fleeing suspect. The suspect fled from officers on foot. K9 Tonto located the suspect’s track and followed it. Tonto tracked the suspect for .41 miles and located him hiding in a small river, partially submerged. The find left K9 Tonto feeling so exhilarated he jumped into the river, pulling Officer Brown in with him. I think I forgot to mention how much Tonto likes the water! The suspect was ultimately taken into custody without incident. Here’s a photo taken moments before K9 Tonto was forced to bathe! I think Officer Brown needed to be watered down himself!
