2017 and a quick look back at 2016

Happy New Year!  I hope your holiday season was joyous and safe!  My hope is that 2017 brings an increase in seat belt use (Buckle Up Please), fewer serious crimes in the Town of Madison and nation, and fewer officers killed in the line of duty.

In 2016 there were 140 line of duty deaths (https://www.odmp.org/).  Two were in Wisconsin.  This is too many.

Cause of Death: Automobile accident

As of December 30 there were 584 traffic fatalities in Wisconsin alone.  Last year at this time it was 552.  This is also too many.  Too many lives lost and families devastated.  Each of us should be more aware when we are driving and PUT THE CELL PHONE DOWN.  Don’t drink and drive and PLEASE wear your seat belt.

Let’s learn from 2016 and reduce the number of deaths of law enforcement officers and deaths on our highways.  I look forward to working with our staff at the Town of Madison PD, our citizens, and businesses this year.

Chief Gregory
