At 5:00 am this morning the cut over from Dane County’s legacy radio system to the New DaneCom P25 digital trunking radio system occurred. The Public Safety Communications Center (PSCC), lead by John Dejung, took the step of launching the system for Law at 5:00 am this morning (November 9, 2016). Fire and EMS moved at 7:00 am, the hospitals moved over at 8:00 am.
I am happy to announce the move went very smoothly! At the 12:00 pm phone conference today it seems there are very few glitches, just a few minor ones that are expected with a project of this magnatude. Harris engineers are on-site with General Communications staff to troubleshoot any issues with the PSCC staff and end-users as needed.
Yesterday, I expressed to your police officers how big of deal this is really is for Dane County. I am confident that none of us working today will be around for the next major radio upgrade for Dane County Public Safety Communications. This has been a project that has been discussed for at least 15 years and should be around more many more years. Dane County and local governments have invested millions of dollars into this system; the backbone, the labor, and the end-user equipment and programming.
I would like to thank Director Dejung on the work he, his staff, and vendors have done to finally make this radio system a reality!
