Charges:  Theft

Details of Incident:

On Sunday, August 14, 2016 the Town of Madison Police Department was called to investigate a complaint of a bicycle theft in the Park Village Apartments.  The victim in the case explained that the bicycle had gone missing in the previous few days but believed that he located the bike for sale on Craigslist.  The officers took note that the victim in the case was a US Army combat veteran and Purple Heart awardee.

Officers from the Town of Madison Police Department followed up with the posting and were able to arrange a meeting on August 16 with the person who had posted the bike for sale.  TMPD officers and detectives made contact with Gallenberg.  The suspect admitted to Officer Hoffman that he stole the bicycle and he had stolen 2 additional bicycles from the Park Village Apartments. Officers were led to those bikes that were also listed for sale on Craigslist and confiscated the stolen property.  We are in the process of locating those bicycle owners and investigating those thefts.

During the investigation officers determined that Gallenberg had been a suspect, but not arrested or charged, in other bicycle thefts in Dane County.

Gallenberg was transported to the Dane County Jail and referred to the District Attorney for charges of misdemeanor theft.
